As the middle of autumn arrives, many people around the globe gather to celebrate "moon" and "harvest" festivals. In Taiwan the festival is known as the Tion Chhiu. Every year it falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, according to the lunar calendar of Taiwan.
We call this event "The Celebration of Many Moons." The name reflects the rich heritage of Taiwan and her legends. It invokes the "many moons" that have spanned our culture and history. These moons shine across time and place-from the past and the ancient legends of the Han and Hakka to the present and those of us in the modern Taiwanese diaspora, living in far-off places like Houston.
